Women’s Empowerment: Building Stronger Communities
In the vibrant region of Telaga Mas Kalimantan, home to 24 villages with a population more than 23,000, a powerful story of community and empowerment unfolds. Women comprise nearly half of the population, making up 48.74%, while men account for 51.26%. Within these villages, Indika Nature has observed several influential groups, including informal women’s groups united by shared interests and environmental conditions. These groups hold immense potential for the growth and empowerment of the community.
While there have been strides in governance—four women have taken on leadership roles as village heads in Swan Slutung, Uko, Prewe, and Prayon—there remains a gap in women’s involvement in information channels and institutional knowledge related to area management.
To address this, Indika Nature has launched targeted programs to empower women across the region, focusing on four key pillars: education, training, employment opportunities, and improved living standards. In the realm of education, the aim is to provide access to quality education for at least 500 women. Indika Nature is also dedicated to training 1,200 women and local community members in sustainable natural resource and institutional management.
Employment opportunities are another cornerstone of our efforts. Indika Nature aspires to have women make up 60% of the total workforce in the region. By supporting livelihood diversification through cooperatives and other initiatives, we aim to positively impact the lives of 3,600 women and elevate their living standards.
Through these holistic approaches, Indika Nature is committed to fostering an inclusive, sustainable future for Telaga Mas, where women’s voices and potential drive the progress of the community.
