Environmental Services
Preserving nature’s valuable gifts that sustain life and prosperity
An overlooked service from an underrated source
The water we drink and the air we breathe are products of the little-appreciated concept known as environmental services.
It is thanks to intact natural ecosystems that we can enjoy these resources, and in recognition of this valuable service, Indika Nature has made the preservation of these spaces a central pillar of our purpose. Across 82,000 hectares of varied landscapes, we implement initiatives ranging from biodiversity protection to pollution control. Through innovative solutions, we ensure clean air, water, and land for communities, fostering a more sustainable world for future generations.
Preserving the natural benefits that sustain life
Environmental services are nature's invaluable gifts to humanity, providing a multitude of often-overlooked benefits essential for our well-being and survival. Indika Nature's subsidiary, Telaga Mas Kalimantan, conducts comprehensive research and adapts methodologies to restore forest ecosystems, promote biodiversity, and enhance ecological functions like carbon sequestration.
We implement silviculture techniques to maintain a continuous forest canopy and promote a mix of tree species and ages to enhance carbon storage and forest resilience. We also add biochar to soil to improve soil health and boost tree growth.
To assess the effectiveness of our regeneration efforts, we regularly measure tree growth, biomass, and soil carbon. We also use satellite imagery and geographic information systems to monitor forest health, growth, and carbon sequestration over time.
Our projects are validated by independent third-party experts to ensure compliance with international standards. Once validated, we implement proposed carbon sequestration activities, including afforestation, reforestation, revegetation, sustainable land management practices, and community development initiatives. Engaging local communities is crucial for sustainable forest management and long-term success. Our methods significantly enhance carbon sequestration, mitigate climate change, and provide numerous ecological and socio-economic benefits.
Indika Nature is eligible to generate carbon credits based on the quantification of approximately 797,500 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) sequestered or mitigated annually by the project. These credits can be traded on the carbon markets or sold to organizations seeking to offset their carbon footprint, including to the Indika Energy Group in helping meet its 2050 net-zero goal.

Telaga Mas Kalimantan holds a significant place within the expansive landscape of approximately 82,000 hectares in Paser, East Kalimantan. This vast area encompasses the Gunung Lumut Protected Forest and the Hutan Adat Mului customary forest, home to 24 villages and more than 23,000 individuals whose livelihoods center on forest-based activities including farming, rattan and honey gathering, and rubber tapping. Given this forest-dependent array of economic pursuits, Telaga Mas Kalimantan stands as a focal point, serving as a vital resource for both the local community and the surrounding ecosystem. Its preservation is essential not only for the well-being of the inhabitants but also for the conservation of the region’s natural heritage.
